By Channel — Voice

Voice Is Another Channel for the Same Agent

Underneath the phone call is the same decision logic that runs a chat agent or an inbox agent — reading state, deciding within rules, acting or escalating. The only difference is what comes in and out is speech instead of text.

How It Works

Speech In, Decision, Speech Out

1

Speech Recognition

What the caller says is converted to text the agent can reason over, including names, numbers and the specifics of the request.

2

The Same Agent Logic

The transcript goes through the identical decision layer a chat or email agent uses — look up state, apply rules, decide what to do.

3

Connected Systems

It reads and writes to your CRM, calendar or order system in real time, the same access model as any other agent we build.

4

Speech Synthesis

The response is spoken back, or the call is transferred to a person with context attached, if that is the right move.

Where This Gets Used

The Same Capability, Several Jobs

Inbound Support & Order Lines

Answering common questions about an order, account or service status, and escalating anything outside that scope.

Outbound Reminders & Confirmations

Calling to confirm an appointment, verify a detail, or follow up on something time-sensitive, at a volume that would be tedious for a person to do by hand.

Sales Qualification Calls

Asking the same qualifying questions a rep would ask on a first call, then routing a ready lead with the answers attached. See AI sales agent.

Front-Desk Reception

Answering a main line, routing calls and booking appointments — a specific enough job that it has its own page: AI receptionist.

Neighbouring Page

Voice Agent vs. AI Receptionist

This page covers the general speech capability — what it needs to work and where it applies across several different jobs. AI receptionist is one specific application of it: the front-desk job of answering a main line, routing calls to the right person and taking accurate messages. If your task is specifically that, read the receptionist page directly — it covers the call-routing and message-taking detail this page does not.

Boundaries

What Needs a Person on the Line

Handles Alone

Defined, Repeatable Calls

Status lookups, confirmations, and questions the agent can answer directly from a connected system, with no judgement call involved.

Escalates

Distress, Disputes or Unclear Intent

A caller who is upset, a request that does not fit the defined scope, or a situation where getting it wrong has real consequences — transferred immediately, with context.

Frequently Asked

Voice Agent Questions

Which phone system or provider does this run on?

Whichever telephony setup you already have or choose to use — we build against the interfaces it exposes rather than requiring a specific provider. We are not a telephony platform ourselves and do not claim a partnership or certification with one.

Is this the same as an AI receptionist?

A receptionist is one specific job this capability can do — answering a main line, routing calls and booking appointments. This page is the broader capability, which also covers outbound reminder calls, support lines and sales qualification calls. See the comparison section above for the full distinction.

How natural does the voice sound?

We are not going to give you a number here, because it is not a figure we could defend as a fixed, current fact — the underlying speech technology keeps moving. We can walk through recent examples on a call so you can judge it directly.

What happens when the caller wants a human immediately?

It transfers the call, with whatever context has been captured so far, rather than pushing back on the request. Getting to a person on request is a default behaviour, not a fallback we have to be talked into.
